Mariaan du Plooy was born in Cape Town, South Africa in 1973. She has always loved to paint and draw for family and friends.
In October 2012 she got the opportunity to attend a learn-to-paint course with South African artist Leonie E. Brown. Leonie has mentored her in finding a painting style that she loves using palette knife and brush – painting mainly in oils and acrylics.
In 2016 she was given an opportunity to have some of her work at the Winelands Art Gallery which started off something that was far greater than she could have imagined. On their suggestion to try city scenes, she ventured into the streets of Cape Town with camera in hand, comfortable shoes and the prospect of coffee with her husband in a cosy coffee shop. That was the beginning of something good. She now paints a variety of themes always searching to capture the light at just the right time.
She considers herself blessed by God to have painting as a lifelong learning experience.”
